Summary:
The dedicated counselor is primarily responsible for supporting participants in improving their emotional well-being through individual consultation and short term problem resolution as well as occasional structured group sessions and disruptive event management. This is a full time exempt position.
The counselor will provide confidential, individual in-the-moment support and problem-solving sessions to support the emotional, mental, career and social well-being of participants. The Counselor will assess participants emotional and psychosocial needs to determine appropriate recommendations and deliver short-term supportive interventions. The Counselor will provide referrals to appropriate resources, including EAP, mental health treatment providers, community resources, employer sponsored benefits, and will provide ongoing follow-up to guide and support participants to ensure successful connection with these resources.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts individual assessment using evidence-based tools, problem-solving and supportive consultation sessions for participants to teach coping skills, provide psychosocial education and identify additional needs.
- Plan and facilitate occasional onsite seminars and small group discussions to support emotional, social, career, work engagement and mental well-being of employees.
- Provides referrals and recommendations based on assessed needs. Ensures successful connection with resources and provides support while participant navigates their EAP, health plan and/or community resource networks.
- Maintains accurate, current and complete documentation in BHS customized database
- Participates in survey data gathering and outcomes assessment.
- Conducts consultation and support services to leaders and managers on workplace and/or employee concerns.
- Contribute towards a culture of well-being by advancing ideas, suggestions and content to support employee well-being.
- Serves as an extension of and representative of BHS in supporting the customer’s objectives and program goals as well as BHS’s objectives and goals as assigned.
- Periodically visit local rehabilitative or treatment facilities to meet administrative and staff members, tour the site, ascertain the experience, certification and education level of staff and the organization’s policy concerning progress reports on clients and post-treatment follow-up.
- Write and edit EAP/Wellness/mental health-related articles, presentations, social media postings.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Minimum Master’s degree in a behavioral health field
- Ability to pass federal security clearance
- Maintain an independent clinical license in Maryland (e.g., social worker, clinical psychologist, marriage and family counselor, and professional counselor)
- At least two (2) years of experience in the field of alcoholism and substance use disorders
- Previous EAP experience working in a business setting and advising supervisors, managers, and union officials in dealing with employees experiencing problems; CEAP preferred
- Have at least three (3) years of experience in assessment and counseling
- Mitchel Model critical incident/disruptive event management training and experience preferred
- Experience and comfortable facilitating group discussions and trainings of up to 25 participants
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and in secure electronic case documentation
- Ability to host and manage virtual meetings/sessions using Zoom or similar platforms
Placement Requirements
