Why We're Here:
At Brave Health, we are driven by a deep commitment to transform lives by expanding access to compassionate, high-quality mental health care. By harnessing the power of technology, we break down barriers and bring mental health treatment directly to those who need it most—wherever they are. As a community health-centered organization, we are dedicated to ensuring that no one is left behind. Nearly 1 in 4 people in the U.S. receive healthcare through Medicaid, yet two-thirds of providers don’t accept it. Brave Health is stepping up to close this gap by making mental health care accessible, affordable, and life-changing for all.
Job Description
Our Finance team is seeking a Senior Accountant to oversee daily accounting functions and lead the monthly close process. If you’re passionate about numbers and thrive in a mission-driven environment, we’d love to hear from you!
In this role, you will be a key player in our small department, handling monthly close journal entries, revenue recognition, payments, expense reports, bank reconciliations, accruals, and more. You will be the primary source of reporting each month. Additionally, you'll manage activities related to accounts payable and receivable, and help maintain internal controls. Payroll support and related compliance will also be part of your responsibilities, along with addressing ad hoc issues and questions. You’ll own the financial books and ensure accurate reporting to FP&A and the wider organization.
As we mature our accounting function, you’ll also be integral in tackling new challenges, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys exploring different areas and solving problems creatively. The ideal candidate should be able to approach problems from various perspectives and is comfortable adapting to change. You should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle confidential information responsibly. Precision is key, and you have a knack for spotting errors quickly. Excel is your go-to tool, and you thrive in a fast-paced environment. Your analytical mindset drives your natural curiosity, but you maintain a positive, proactive attitude toward change.
You must also be an effective communicator—able to break down complex concepts, listen, ask questions, and collaborate well with others. Most importantly, you enjoy working closely with teammates and sharing responsibilities to ensure everything is properly accounted for.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with accounting principles
Perform reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts
Lead and manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
Oversee the preparation and filing of taxes, including 1099s, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
Monitor and implement internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data
Coordinate annual FS audit and support the timely delivery of audited financial statements
Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to accounting processes and systems for increased efficiency.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of senior level in-house accounting experience at a startup
Solid understanding of US GAAP and accrual accounting principles
Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment
Strong Excel and Google Sheets skills
Experience with Quickbooks required
Experience managing external auditor relationships
Familiarity with Netsuite or similar software
Familiarity with BambooHR or similar HRIS/Payroll systems
