Overview of Position
The Psychiatry Subject Matter Expert (SME) is a part-time (0.25 FTE) role focused on strengthening InStride’s psychiatric expertise across care delivery, training, content development, and external engagement. Reporting to the Chief Clinical Officer, the SME helps develop clinical content and protocols, onboarding and training materials, and tech-enabled tools to support high-quality, evidence-based care. The role also contributes to public-facing psychiatry education and content, supports patient acquisition and payor efforts, and identifies, sources, and schedules expert speakers for internal continuing education events.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Expertise & Content Development
- Serve as InStride’s SME on child, adolescent, and young adult psychopharmacology and evidence-based treatment integration, staying abreast of emerging trends in pediatric psychiatry.
- Work with the Medical Director to identify areas of need within psychiatry, and review, develop, and refine associated protocols and decision-support resources for the Psychiatry team.
- Gather feedback to identify areas of need for product development, updated support, and innovation within the psychiatry team.
- Provide subject matter input for tools, workflows, and content designed for use across the care team, ensuring alignment with best practices and clinical accuracy.
- Apply a culturally responsive lens to psychiatric content and guidance, ensuring relevance across diverse patient populations
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including Clinical Operations and Product Tech, to ensure content is accessible and consistent across disciplines.
- Support the development, validation, and refinement of tech- and AI-driven tools and decision-support systems to enhance psychiatric care delivery.
- Provide input to support the development and ongoing refinement of quality assurance processes for psychiatric care delivery.
- Gather and incorporate feedback from the Discovery Team to inform clinical product and content development, ensuring tools and resources meet the needs of patients, families, and the care team.
- Evaluate the impact of psychiatry content and tools, using feedback and performance metrics.
Training & Speaker Coordination
- Develop and contribute to psychiatry-specific onboarding materials for new psychiatry team members, ensuring consistent application of InStride’s evidence-based approach.
- Identify high-impact topics for continuing education and professional development for the Psychiatry team.
- Source, vet, and schedule external expert speakers and gather feedback to continuously improve future speaker selection.
Thought Leadership & External Engagement
- Support InStride’s patient acquisition and community outreach efforts by contributing psychiatric expertise to public-facing content, including webinars, blog posts, and psychiatric insights for social media.
- Co-present in periodic public-facing webinars, ensuring clinical quality and psychiatric rigor.
- Join patient acquisition and payor meetings, as needed, to represent InStride psychiatry.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure that all external-facing psychiatry content is accurate, relevant, and aligned with InStride’s mission and brand.
Qualifications
Required Education:
- Satisfactory completion of an MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an internship and residency program in adult psychiatry, followed by a child psychiatry fellowship training program, accredited by the ACGME.
Required Licensure & Board Certification:
- Board certification in Adult Psychiatry as well as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the APBN.
- Fulfillment of continuing education obligations commensurate with state law in state(s) of practice.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Clinical expertise and experience in psychopharmacology for anxiety, OCD, and related disorders in children, adolescents, and young adults.
- Ability to express, receive, and exchange ideas by means of the written and spoken word.
- Strong decision-making skills and the ability to identify workable solutions in time-sensitive situations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to be flexible and work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, mission driven environment.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to technology updates within the workplace, including an openness to incorporating AI, where appropriate.
- Comfort engaging in external-facing webinars.
- Commitment to evidence-based care and to delivering culturally responsive, inclusive psychiatric guidance.
- Ability to accept and provide constructive feedback and initiate appropriate responsive action.
The starting annual salary for this role is $250,000, prorated to $62,500 for 0.25 FTE (10 hours per week). We maintain consistent starting salaries and salary bands to ensure our team members have a clear path for growth within their roles, allowing their compensation to increase as they gain experience at InStride.
