Avela Health is seeking a hands-on, strategic, and mission-driven Vice President of Operations to build and lead the operational foundation for our next phase of growth.
As VP of Operations, you will take ownership of day-to-day operations and design the systems that will allow Avela to scale efficiently while preserving quality, culture, and compassion. You’ll work closely with clinical, technology, and finance leaders to align people, processes, and data in service of a best-in-class care experience. This role requires both strategic foresight and a willingness to get into the details — the ideal candidate is as comfortable mapping operational strategy as they are refining a workflow or dashboard.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations across care delivery, client experience, and clinician support functions.
- Build scalable systems and workflows that enable consistent, high-quality care as Avela grows across states.
- Partner with the COO to develop operational KPIs and dashboards that connect outcomes, quality, and efficiency.
- Drive process improvement initiatives focused on clinician capacity, family access, and service reliability.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, payer, and clinical documentation standards.
Clinical Enablement & Delivery Systems
- Collaborate with the Chief Clinical Officer to align operational models with care standards and family-centered workflows.
- Lead staffing and scheduling operations to ensure capacity matches demand, balancing quality and financial sustainability.
- Optimize telehealth infrastructure and processes for ease of use and strong engagement by both families and clinicians.
- Support onboarding, training, and supervision structures that reinforce Avela’s unique clinical model.
People & Culture
- Build and mentor a small but mighty team across client operations, clinician operations, and data functions.
- Foster a culture of accountability, clarity, and care — ensuring that operational excellence never comes at the expense of humanity.
- Strengthen internal communication and feedback loops across the clinical, administrative, and leadership teams.
- Model transparency and trust; balance operational rigor with empathy and adaptability.
Strategic Growth & Infrastructure
- Partner with leadership on new market launches, payer integrations, and operational readiness for expansion.
- Develop the systems that connect strategy, operations, and financial performance — including forecasting, cost modeling, and scenario planning.
- Collaborate with the Product and Technology teams to automate manual workflows and build infrastructure that scales.
- Participate in fundraising, board, and investor discussions as an operational thought partner.
Qualifications
- 5-7years of progressive experience in healthcare operations, ideally in behavioral health, pediatrics
- Experience managing services delivered virtually and/or via telehealth.
- Demonstrated success building or scaling systems and teams in a high-growth environment.
- Deep understanding of clinical operations, compliance, and payer workflows (e.g., credentialing, prior auth, revenue cycle).
- Hands-on operator with strong analytical and process design skills — able to build, measure, and iterate.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate across clinical and non-clinical domains.
- Mission-driven leader with humility, curiosity, and a deep respect for families and clinicians.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in startup or early-stage healthcare environments.
- Exposure to value-based care, integrated behavioral health, or family-centered care models.
- Comfort with both strategic planning and hands-on implementation.
